An unemployed Machinist by John Giorno

The repetitiveness in this poem was something new to me,especially in the fashion that Giorno did it. In the first 2 lines he repeated "an unemployed machinist" which made me think that the author wanted the reader to notice that he is unemployed and is a machinist, perhaps thats all he is. The author was trying to get that point across perhaps. In the end of the poem he walks into a police station and says hes scared. Maybe the machinist ( or author ) experienced something bad in their lifetime and maybe forgot about what he went through but was still scared.

There It Is- Jayne Cortez

The way she writes makes you feel that her words alone could overcome oppression. In the end of the poem she says " and there it is" That makes me feel that she is basically saying if we don't overcome all of the oppression that is going on then we will stay oppressed "there it is" its that simple. She makes you want to take control of your own life and try to better yourself.

Barbie Doll-Asmir Redzematovic

The supposed perfection that the author is trying to show is never going to be achevied in the real world. In reality only a small percentage of women can live up to these "Barbie" looks. I feel that its sad we view women this way. Even today after all we have been through ( womens suffrage ) I still feel society places a stereotype on women

howl by ginsberg

This was by far the longest poem I have read but it is also one of the best ones i have had the pleasure of reading. To me it seems like the poem is seperated into different parts. In the first part Ginsberg is talking about the best minds of society and how they were destroyed. He does not tell us exactly who destroyed them but it is clear to see that these arent doctors or lawyers but instead they are regular people that he thought were the best part of society. The second section talks about what he thinks destroyed these people and he used the hebrew God Moloch to describe his point. For Ginsberg, Moloch is associated with war, government, capitalism, and mainstream culture, all of which he believes was responsible for the destruction of these people. The third part of this poem seems to be a personal outreach to a friend of Ginsberg. He ended the poem with a dream, where he hoped he and his friend will reunite one day.

wedding ring

When i read this poem i got the assumption that the author is speaking from past ordeals that she went through with other men. her ring is what happened in the past. Every good memory, as well as bad , is in her wedding ring. i think the author left her ring behind because married life was not for her. Despite the good memories she had, there were still bad times in the past that , i believe, the author can not overcome. The ring is a symbol of her past and by her leaving the ring she is trying to forget about what happened.

sharon olds

I feel that the author of this poem experienced an event in his past that he wishes he could change, but i do not think it is a wedding he is talking about. Some event occurred where the author could have changed something in his past but he did not, for whatever reason. He now retells this story in hopes of other people not committing the same mistakes that she did.

wheelbarrow

The simplicity of this poem is the most amazing part about it , in my opinion. Each line says something definite about the wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow does so many things and yet it isnt even moving. One would think this wheelbarrow is a sight to see after reading this poem. The author was probably inside watching the wheelbarrow because he said it was raining and im guessing that he would be indoors observing a simple part of life that people sometimes forget
